Attending events is a great way to get involved and become aware about our work in the community. UNA-Canada, Calgary Branch hosts and supports a variety of events throughout the year to teach, inform, inspire and connect our members and those interested in our work, and the works of the United Nations.
Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) typically happens in early spring. During the brief 60-minute AGM, our President highlights our branch’s accomplishments for the year, covers our financial statements and charter amendments, and introduces new board members.
If you are a current UNA-Canada, Calgary Branch member, expect to receive a package in the mail at least 21 days prior to the meeting that contains the meeting’s agenda, financial statements, and any supporting documents that enables you to vote on charter or board member changes.
Community Partner Events
In support of our community partners, we attend and help to promote community events that are aligned with our mandate. These events include the Forest Lawn Public Library’s annual Taste of Cultures and University of Calgary’s Calgary Peace Run.
UN Season is a time to look beyond our communities and daily experiences to recognize how closely we all are knit together in a global family, and to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the United Nations to your world, your community and your life.
UN Season is one of UNA-Canada’s many Signature Programmes, with a long – term goal to cultivate an expectation of opportunities to appreciate and engage communities about the work of the UN.
UNA – Canada has chosen the time frame for the UN Season to build around the annual New York meeting of the UN General Assembly and UN-designated days and weeks between September and December. You can expect our branch to commemorate one of the following UN-designated days:
- International Day of Peace – September 21
- International Day of the Girl Child – October 11
- World Food Day – October 16
- UN Day – October 24
- Human Rights Day – December 10
